Production
The first thing to consider when choosing between dry and liquid flavoring is, of course, the efforts and resources required to produce them. ; Dry beverage flavors are most commonly produced by dry spraying, in which a mix of the desired flavor, water, and a carrier are atomized into hot air. At that point, the mixture cools quickly, trapping the desired flavors into their final powdered form. ; Liquid flavors are a little more straightforward: you mix your desired flavors with your preferred carrier (and this varies depending on whether you are looking to produce water-soluble flavors, alcohol extracts, fruit flavors, etc.) instead of going through the dry spraying process. ; Ultimately, liquid flavors are a simpler process, as dry spraying involves more steps and equipment. ; ELEMENTS OF A CANDLE: FRAGRANCE The addition of fragrance to a candle formulation is a common practice in the United States. In fact, an estimated 75 to 80 percent of candles sold in the U.S. are scented. Candle fragrance manufacturers work closely with fragrance companies to develop candle fragrances that are not only pleasing but will burn safely and properly. The aroma from a lighted scented candle is released through the evaporation of the fragrance from the hot wax pool and from the solid candle itself. Like unscented candles, properly-formulated scented candles will primarily produce water vapor and carbon dioxide when burned. The only difference is that a fragrance is also released with a scented candle. Most scented candles contain a combination of natural and synthetic fragrances These fragrance materials may be derived from essential oils or from synthetic aroma chemicals. A well-made candle will contain only fragrance materials approved for candle use; the addition of fragrance to a candle formulation should be carefully monitored to ensure that the candle will burn cleanly and properly. Candle manufacturers can select from more than 2,000 aroma chemicals and essential oils to develop scents that are both pleasing to consumers and compatible with candle use. These fragrance materials are safe, high-quality ingredients that are also found in many perfumes, bath soaps, lotions, and shampoos. Various health and safety tests are conducted on the raw fragrance materials that are used in candles and other consumer products. Reputable candle manufacturers use only expertly-formulated fragrances specifically approved for candle use. Air freshener Air freshener fragrances are consumer products that typically emit fragrance and are used in homes or commercial interiors such as restrooms, foyers, hallways, vestibules, and other smaller indoor areas, as well as larger areas such as hotel lobbies, auto dealerships, medical facilities, public areas, and other large interior spaces. Car fresheners are used in automobiles. As a source of odors, specific deodorizing blocks are made for toilets and urinals. There are many different methods and brands of air fresheners. Some of the different types of air fresheners include electric fan air fresheners, gravity drip hygiene odor control cleaning systems, passive non-mechanical evaporating aroma diffusers, and metered aerosol time-operated mist dispensers, sprays, candles, oils, gels, beads, and plug-ins. Some air fresheners contain chemicals that provoke allergy and asthma symptoms or are toxic. Air freshening is not only limited to modern-day sprays, air freshening also can involve the use of organic and everyday household items. Although air fresheners are primarily used for odor elimination, some people use air fresheners for the pleasant odors they emit. Perfume Fragrance Perfume Fragrance is a mixture of fragrant essential oils or aroma compounds (fragrances), fixatives, and solvents, usually in liquid form, used to give the human body, animals, food, objects, and living spaces an agreeable scent. A fragrance is defined as a combination of organic compounds that produces a distinct smell or odor. A perfume is a liquid mixture used to emit a pleasant odor. It is formed from fragrant essential oils derived from plants and spices or synthetic aromatic compounds. Cosmetic fragrances applied to a person’s body to emit a pleasant smell include perfume, cologne, and aftershave. Parfum or Extrait has a 20–30% concentration of fragrance. As perfume contains a high concentration of fragrance, it is typically the most expensive. It is usually a heavier, oilier product than the other types of perfume, and tends to be used more sparingly. The smell is long-lasting — an average of 8 hours and up to 24 hours. What Are E Liquids? E liquid flavor, otherwise known as 'vape liquid' or 'vape juice', is the fluid used in vape kits and electronic cigarettes to create flavored vapor. There are quite a few 'types' of e-liquid, but they generally all fall into a few main categories. If you're new to vaping, it's a good idea to know what these are so that you can choose the correct type for your vape kit or e-cigarette. Find out more about these below. Types Of E Liquid All e liquids contain a ratio of two important ingredients. These are VG (vegetable glycerin) and PG (propylene glycol). VG is a thicker substance whereas PG is thinner. Different ratios of these ingredients will affect the viscosity of the vape liquid and therefore which types of device they will be most suitable for. They also have an effect on the vapor and 'throat hit' that an e-liquid will produce: E-liquids with a VG bias tend to produce larger vapor clouds with little to no throat hit. E Liquids with a PG bias provide the hit to the back of the throat that is often favored by those trying to give up smoking. These liquids tend to produce a more subtle amount of vapor. Chemical Fragrance To many people, the word "fragrance" means something that smells nice, such as perfume. We don't often stop to think that scents are chemicals. Chemical Fragrances are organic compounds that volatilize or vaporize into the air, which is why we can smell them. They are added to products to give them a scent or to mask the odor of other ingredients. The volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) emitted by fragrance products can contribute to poor indoor air quality (IAQ) and are associated with a variety of adverse health effects. Fragrance chemicals are the number one cause of allergic reactions to cosmetics — not only to the primary users but also to those who breathe in the chemicals as secondhand users. Phthalates in fragrances are known to disrupt hormones and are linked in animal studies to malformations of the penis, as well as adverse effects on the developing testes. Fragrances in Health Care In health care facilities, fragrances can come from a number of sources: scented cleaning products fragrance-emitting devices and sprays workers, patients, and visitors who are wearing perfume, cologne, or aftershave scented cosmetics, skin lotions, or hair products clothes that have been laundered with scented detergents, fabric softeners, or dryer sheets. Indoor air quality can be greatly improved in health care facilities by adopting a hospital-wide fragrance-free policy that includes a fragrance-free policy for employees, maintenance products, and non-employee hospital, occupants. Hospitals can also choose personal care products and cleaners that are free of chemical fragrances. ; WHAT IS AN E-CIGARETTE? E-cigarettes are devices that operate by heating a liquid solution to a high enough temperature so that it produces an aerosol that is inhaled. Solutions, sometimes called e-liquids, almost always include nicotine, flavoring, and a humectant, such as propylene glycol, to retain moisture and create the aerosol when heated. While many of the flavorings and humectants used in e-liquids have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for oral consumption, they have not been approved for inhalation. Thus, their health consequences are not well known when consumed in this manner ; Older generations of e-cigarettes used a form of nicotine called free-base nicotine. The most recent generation of e-cigarettes on the market, which include pre-filled pod systems like JUUL, refillable systems like Suorin Drop and Kandypens, and disposable systems like Puff Bar, use nicotine salts in the e-liquids. The nicotine salt formulas allow for much higher levels and efficient delivery of nicotine with less irritation compared to earlier generations of e-cigarettes — prompting questions about the use, purpose, and safety of this novel form of nicotine. Higher nicotine e-cigarettes have driven the surge in e-cigarette sales in recent years, with those containing at least 4% nicotine comprising nearly three-quarters of the e-cigarette market in 2018. Unlike in Europe, where e-cigarette nicotine concentrations cannot exceed 2%, there are no nicotine concentration restrictions in the United States. Geschlecht
